Philippine Flights: 2 Picturesque Destinations in Northern Luzon

The next time you book any one of those Philippine flights, check out these great destinations that we are singling out due to their fascinating feel and look. We just love the way these destinations feed our camera lenses – and our fascination too.  You know how it is…when you found something great, or when you experienced profound appreciation, you’d want to share them to. Hence, our sharing….

Vigan - touted as a “place like no other,” Vigan boasts of more than 180 ancestral houses, old administrative and religious structures, paved public squares and other noteworthy historical landmarks that can be found within the poblacion – most of which were built during the 18th and 19th centuries. Basically, Vigan is the only surviving area that showcases how towns really looked like during colonial times. The historic townscape is a dreamy blend of Latin American architecture with obvious tastes of Asian and European influences. When one of your next Philippine flights lead you to Vigan, you’d surely say that “time stood still” in this panorama of antiquated houses, narrow streets paved with cobblestones, quaint calesas (horse-drawn carriages) and friendly faces of the natives.

Domestic Philippine flights can connect you from Manila to Laoag City Airport which is just 90 minutes away from Vigan. You could also take the more scenic (but could be tiring) 7 to 9 hour drive by bus.
Today, Vigan is now included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List. It’s festival called “Viva Vigan Festival” is held every first week of May.  It features the “Binatbatan” street dancing (sticks hitting to separate cotton balls from seeds), ramada games, santacruzan, trade fairs, fashion shows, and religious rituals.

2. Batanes – If you love that New Zealand tourist-promotional tv spot and fell in love with the landscape, wait till you see the ten tiny islands and islets of Batanes. The scenery is a combination of New Zealand’s hills and seascapes and that of hills and mountains of the Scottish highlands.
There are domestic Philippine flights that could take you to this dreamy destination. SeaAir Philippine flights take you there via Laoag to Basco, Batanes from Manila.  Another way of getting there is via ferry boat (MV Ivatan) that leaves Ilocos Norte on Wednesdays and Sundays (8pm) and arrives at Basco, Batanes the following day.

“Different” and “special” are two words that describe Batanes – but not quite. Words are not enough to describe this dreamy paradise, to use the cliché. Perhaps pictures will. Isolated from the rest of the Philippines, a visitor could readily see the difference once he approaches the islands.  The windswept hills, rugged cliffs, boulder-hemmed shores, and the eerie desolation that characterize some of its landscape, and the dream-like, poster prettiness of the rest, give the visitor a feeling of being somewhere else.

Hop in to one of the Philippine flights to Batanes and experience a truly unique destination.  The landscapes are unique, the climate is unique, the houses are different, the language is different, and the people special. Aren’t these exactly the reasons why you want to travel?
